History Enrichment Days

Year 3 Stone Age Extravaganza

As part of our Stone Age enquiry, pupils enjoyed an immersive experience exploring how people in early settlements lived and survived.

On our school field, children discovered a Stone Age tent filled with animal skins, cave paintings, tools, weapons and everyday objects from thousands of years ago. Guided by our visiting experts, “Twig” and “Kilt,” they learned about key survival skills such as making fire, preparing food, gutting fish and shaping rocks into flint tools.

It was a memorable day that brought the Stone Age vividly to life and deepened the children’s understanding of this fascinating period.

"It felt like we were in the proper Stone Age because they had so many real animal skins and cave paintings." - Beau

"My favourite bit was when we first went into the tent and saw the real fire. It was amazing  that it was smoking out the top of the tent." - Ronnie

"We got to cook and eat a real fish. Twig even ate the fish heart!" - Nora

"The most satisfying part was when they cut open the fish with a piece of flint!" - Aurora

Viking Day in Year 5

Children immersed themselves in Viking life through a range of hands-on activities. They created paint from natural pigments, designed coins and runes, tried their hand at weaving, and even made their own candles.

We also explored what made the Vikings such formidable warriors and why Britain became a prime target for their raids.

In the afternoon, the children became historians, examining artefacts and using their findings to create a mini-museum, proudly sharing their discoveries with one another.

"I really liked Viking Day because everyone was dressed up in different outfits." - Eddie

"I think it was great. My favourite part was when they melted some metal and poured it into a mould." - Tommy

"My favourite part was candle dipping." - Jayden

World War II Experience Day

The children had a fantastic time exploring wartime precautions and discovering what school life was like for evacuee children during World War II. The afternoon brought history vividly to life as pupils learned about old money and rationing before ‘visiting’ a range of recreated village shops, including a dairy, butcher and greengrocer.

“I really enjoyed the day. Going around the shops brought the experience to life, and I loved using the fountain pens like children would have done in the 1940s.” - Thomas

“It was really good pretending to be in the shop because it felt like going back in time. It was fun using the ration book and paying with old money.” - Edward

“I thought the day was really fun because I like interactive activities. The sirens and taking cover made us realise that they could have gone off at any time—at school, in the shops, or anywhere!”- Darcy
