Racoon Class Gallery

This week in History, we continued our World War II topic by exploring which countries were involved in the war. We identified the Allied and Axis powers, as well as countries that remained neutral, and discussed how different countries became involved in the conflict.

In English, we explored the key features of a persuasive letter. We also played a fun game of musical chairs to practise using colons to introduce a list. Each time the music stopped, the children added an item to someone else’s list. When they returned to their own work, they used a colon to introduce their completed list correctly.

Racoons week 4.

This week, we had our exciting World War II hook lesson! Each classroom was transformed and filled with artefacts linked to different aspects of the war, including evacuation and the start of the war, air raids and the Blitz, and rationing. The children explored each room carefully, using the clues and artefacts to pose thoughtful questions about what they might mean and what life may have been like during World War II. We are looking forward to finding the answers as our History topic progresses!

In Art, we began our new 3D unit by creating visual notes about the work of Chuck Close, Clare Youngs and Lubaina Himid. We explored their different artistic styles and techniques, ready to create an enlarged Raccoon. We can’t wait to see the finished creations!

Racoons week 3.

This week, we learnt about the importance of DRSABC and what to do in an emergency. The children discussed how to respond safely and confidently before practising how to put someone into the recovery position.

We also explored the work of Andy Warhol and learnt about his bold and colourful Pop Art style. Inspired by his artwork, we created our very own art, using our class racoon as the focus.

Racoons week 2.

What a fantastic first week back we have had in Raccoon Class! Some of the children took part in Bikeability, while the remaining Raccoons enjoyed a variety of exciting investigations and STEM activities, including challenges using LEGO.

We also spent time learning about our school vision and values and the four key values that help every acorn grow into a mighty oak: Compassion, Courage, Responsibility and Resilience. Through a range of activities, we explored what each of these values looks like in our everyday lives.

One of our favourite activities was the cup challenge, which really put our resilience to the test! We learned how important it is to persevere, keep trying and not give up when something feels difficult.

Well done, Raccoons, on a super first week back! Keep up the fantastic hard work!
